What is harmful garbage and its harm
Hazardous waste refers to the waste that causes direct or potential harm to human health or natural environment, mainly including waste batteries, waste lamps, waste drugs, waste paint and containers. They need to be put into special collection of hazardous trash can containers, must not be discarded at will. As far as the abandoned lamp tubes are concerned, according to the relevant media, most of the energy-saving lamps produced by the current process contain chemical element mercury. A common energy-saving lamp contains about 0.5 mg of mercury. If 1 mg of mercury seeps into the ground, 360 tons of water pollution will be caused. Mercury also enters the atmosphere in the form of vapor. Once the mercury content in the air exceeds the standard, it will cause harm to the human body. Long-term exposure to excessive mercury can cause poisoning. Minamata disease is one of the most typical public hazards of chronic mercury poisoning. So the harmful garbage is harmful. Please put the harmful garbage bin into centralized disposal.
Battery's harm to human body: A No. 1 battery rots in the ground, which can make 1 square meter of soil lose its use value permanently; a button battery can pollute 600 tons of water, equivalent to a person's lifetime drinking water. Among the most threatening substances to the natural environment, batteries contain mercury, lead, cadmium and so on. If waste batteries are mixed with domestic waste, or discarded casually, mercury and heavy metals will permeate into soil, pollute groundwater, and then enter fish and crops, destroy human living environment, and indirectly threaten human health.
How is hazardous waste collected, transported and disposed of?
Harmful garbage should be collected and transported regularly or by appointment. Hazardous garbage generated by our residential area is put into the hazardous garbage bin for collection and transportation, and it is collected and transported by the local domestic garbage clearing and transporting unit or the qualified operation unit designated by the green city appearance management department of the district. It is transported to the district-level transit point for storage by the special collection vehicle. After a certain amount of the garbage is accumulated, it is pre-empted by the district transit point management unit (or the district market supervision department). The specialized collection and transportation enterprises determined by the Greening Municipal Appearance Bureau of Yushi City carry out unified transportation, sorting and storage, and eventually, according to the types of hazardous waste, they are handed over to the units with the corresponding qualifications for hazardous waste management license for harmless disposal (as shown in the figure below). At present, centralized sorting points for hazardous waste have been built in all districts of Hangzhou.
As far as expired drugs are concerned, most of them are easy to decompose and evaporate after expiration, emit toxic gases, cause indoor environmental pollution, and even cause harm to human respiratory tract when they are serious. If overdue medicines are discarded at will, they will pollute the air, soil and water environment. Once it flows into the hands of illegal traders, it will flow back to the market, resulting in more serious consequences. So, as you all know now, harmful garbage must not be thrown away, it must be collected and put into harmful garbage collection containers!
